When you know better,
you do better.
We have all grown up in this ableist society and due to many historical, systemic, and other factors, you may have learned ways to behave around disabled individuals, or you may have made assumptions about disabled lives, or even what disability is or looks like. This is your moment to unpack those assumptions and change how you engage in your practice.

Research Collaboration
A significant aspect of Dr. Smith's work is her emphasis on cross-disability concerns, a field where experts are limited. Her intersectional approach makes her a rare and valuable resource in the realm of JEDI work.
Dr. Smith creates what she has coined a “safer environment for learning”. A safer space acknowledges there is no such thing as a safe space. Through cultural humility, respect for difference, and clear communication, she creates an atmosphere where difficult subjects can be unpacked and examined. Attendees leave the space with tangible practices they can apply immediately to their daily lives.
